Sury-le-Comtal
This village was chosen as early as the C.11th by the counts of Forez as their place of residence. This fortified feudal town was returned to the French crown in 1531. François 1er stayed in the castle of which only the cloistered door remains today situated near the church. The castle that we see today is a recognised historic monument.
Built on the ruins of the old castle in the Renaissance period its inside ornamentations were spared by the fire of 1937. Note that its gardens originally in French fashion, were reorganised in English fashion in the C.19th
