Voguë

A little jewel encrusted in the limestone cliff, the village of Voguë seems to have grown out of the mountain. Beneath the houses flows the Ardèche, rather peaceful and calm in this area. Besides, the banks have been converted into little pebble beaches. It is a little natural nook where it is pleasant to laze about., lulled by the Mistral and the cicadas.
The bridge linking the secondary road D 258 and which spans the river has kept its picturesque charm. In the olden days foreigners or visitors had to pay a toll to cross it. But those days are now over.
At the top of the village towers the imposing castle of the former seigneurs with its four towers, characteristic of the architecture of the Oc country. You reach it by means of a chestnut-lined path whose shade is greatly appreciated when the summer sun beats down too hard. Built in the C.17th , this majestic edifice has preserved its magnificent keep which is 25 metres high.
In the village chapel, whose stained glass windows are the fruit of the genius of Manessier, there is a retable of breathtaking beauty carved in soft stone
Higher up the village , the hanging gardens also offer a magnificent panorama over the whole valley. There is no doubt about it, the village of Voguë with its contrasts of red tiles and golden stones, is the ideal destination for a little summer break.
