The wines from the Beaujolais region
One single vine is used to produce all the wines of the Beaujolais region, the majority of which are red, the Gamay. For its wines, its villages, do not hesitate to make a detour towards the Beaujolais country.
If the new Beaujolais is the regions ambassador, Beaujolais is also found under 12 other names.
Brouilly : high in colour, firm and full-bodied. To be served at a temperature of 12° with small game (birds) and with red meats.
Chénas : next to the famous Moulin à Vent it is a wine that can be kept. To be served at 14° with meats in sauce or strong cheese.
Chiroubles : tender and elegant, its colour is sparkling red and its aroma a mingling of peony, lily-of-the-valley and violet. Fine and very fruity. To be served cool, at 12° with delicatessen, poultry, white meats and starters.
Côte de Brouilly : wine that is purple in colour with an aroma of fresh grapes and irises, it needs to mature before developing all its elegance of taste. To be served at 13° with delicatessen or jugged rabbit.
Fleurie : flowery and fruity aromas: iris, violet, faded rose, peach, blackcurrant and other red berries. To be served at 13° with coq au vin, leg of lamb à la beaujolaise, poultry and white meats.
Juliénas : offering a generous flavour of peach, red berries, and flowers, it is the wine of wine and food critics and journalists. To be served at 13°, with coq au vin, game( birds) ,or poultry in sauce.
Morgon : stocky and full-flavoured it is deep garnet red in colour and has an aroma of ripe stone-fruit: cherry, peach, apricot, plum
it deserves to be kept a year or two to reach perfection. To be served at 13° with meats served in sauce or with game.
Moulin à Vent : a strong wine with an aroma of iris, of faded rose of spices and ripe fruit. It is a wine to be kept. To be served at 14° with red meats , game and cheese.
Régnié : the most recent of Beaujolais wines. Its classification dates from 1988. It is a supple and well-formed wine, cherry-coloured with violet reflections and flavours of redcurrant, blackberry and raspberry. To be served at 13° with terrines or white meats.
Saint Amour : a lively, fine and well balanced wine. To be served with giblets poultry and feathered game.
Beaujolais villages : spread over 39 parishes, these wines have an aroma of red fruit predominantly blackcurrant and strawberry. Mellow to the taste, they can accompany marvellously a good number of dishes.
Beaujolais : whether they be floral or fruity, beaujolais wines are to be drunk all the year round. Serve cool at 11°. To accompany starters or at any time just for the pleasure.
