Les Côtes du Rhône du Septentrion ( Wine from the hillside vineyards in the Northern part of the Rhône region)

It would be impossible to enumerate them all, that is why we have chosen to make your mouth water by describing the greatest among them. They are very pleasant with our contemporary light cuisine. The white wine is to be served rather cool and the red between 14° and 17°. When stocked, the red will mature after four or five years. The white is better when young; up to two years of age.
The vines, planted on steep hills, are the result of an impressive amount of work on the part of the vine-growers. They are planted to the West of the Rhône…to make the most of the morning sun.
Taste the Saint Joseph for example. The reds are subtle in taste, harmonious in form and supple without being too strong. The whites are fresh and linger in the mouth.

Château-Grillet : like a fine demoiselle in a bright brilliant robe. Its aroma sums up all the lands surrounding it; the peach and apricot take complete hold if left to stand in the glass. Rich, thick, smooth, well-developed, it is supple and round, with no acidity. It can be drunk with all good fare especially with fresh-water fish and especially …with reverence.

Saint-Péray : a nice little white wine as the saying goes. A distinction must be made between the flat and sparkling sorts.
To the eye, the sparkling wine presents a fine yellow robe which characterises it. As for the flat it is pale gold in colour.
To the nose, the sparkling wine is flowery. The flat is more discreet and has a perfume of freshly cut flowers.
In the mouth, the sparkling wine is lively, light, dry and refreshing.
The flat is light in outline and lively. It is dry and its acidity is good.
In the course of a meal it is amusing to go from one to the other from the apéritif to the dessert by way of a good fish dish or sweetbreads! To be served well chilled and to be opened at the last minute.

Hermitage : a jewel of a wine of a deep ruby red. It is a bouquet of red fruit and wild flowers evolving towards an aroma of stone fruit with age. It knocks you off your feet.
The red wine, rather severe when young , matures in suppleness and roundness with persisting aromas of candied fruits.
It is advisable to serve the red at a temperature of between 16° and 18° with game or good red meats.

Crozes hermitage :
As for the Hermitage wine we are impatiently waiting for some wine-growing web surfer who produces this wine to offer us a bottle of the white.
As for the red, it goes perfectly with a good Bresse bird. It is of an intense, bright colour ; its aroma makes you think you are in the presence of red fruits, leather and spices. Its form is gracious and lively , its taste tinged with tannin and lingering in the mouth. The red wine, with the noble taste of tannin, remains nonetheless light. To be served between 14° and 16° and to be opened two hours before drinking.

Côte-Rôtie : “ drink a Côte Rôtie and die” as the well known saying goes
It is deep red in colour and tinged with violet when young. It smells of raspberry, spices and a touch of violet that makes your head dizzy with pleasure. There are no words to describe the taste it is so smooth and lingering.
To be served in a decanter; that is how its beauty can be fully appreciated.. To accompany delicate meats and water fowl it is fine , but with asparagus or truffles…!

Cornas : to look at you could say it is a courtisane in a dark red robe. When you smell it you could say it is a bouquet of red fruits and mild pepper. After five years the flavour develops and it is an aroma of truffle, amber, cooked fruits and liquorice that comes to the nose.

Condrieu :
Pale gold in colour with golden reflections, a powerful aroma of wild flowers, violet, iris and apricot. It has a supple and lingering taste but is heady and smooth. Fresh on the whole.
To be drunk cool but not cold. It is fine in the bottle or served in a decanter and goes well with all cooked fish and foie gras.

All that remains for you to do now is taste them. And if you visit the region, call us up and we will be delighted to taste them with you.
